W 9yrs
autism, darting/absconding in the community, no danger awareness
Over 3 hours weekly, we took W out into the community, implemented a variety of strategies. By slowly breaking down the skills, teaching step-by-step models, within 18 months we got W to a stage where the skill was generalised and maintained from therapist, to parent, to safe adult. W can now safely use a zebra crossing, is more aware of traffic and pedestrians, stays with mum/safe adult, doesn’t abscond and actively helps with the weekly shop.

emotional-regulation difficulties, emotional masking.
B presented with a lack of confidence or self-awareness and was unable to communicate her feelings. She couldn’t go out in the community or face social situations/friendships. With focussed rapport building 1:1 sessions and targeted emotional focussing, 1 year on, B is now able to express her feelings, remove herself from situations she finds challenging, she attends a small weekly social group and is more confident out in community, even ordering a hot chocolate herself. We began with weekly sessions and are now at 1 hr monthly to maintain the generalisation of skills and help with any on-going anxiety.

K was highly distracted and often upset in the busy school classroom environment, spending the majority of time in a 1:1 working space. By supporting K and his school staff using various strategies including a bespoke visual support package, K’s time in the classroom was built up slowly, from initially accessing quieter times, working up towards the more animated, active lessons. With a consistent approach across all staff members and the Horizon Hub team, K is now an active and happy member of the class.

P struggled to maintain attention, grabbed at items and was unable to sit alongside others. Through visual and play based teaching, on starting school some 6 months later, P is now able to sustain attention to an activity, sit for longer periods, respond to clear instructions and enjoy time alongside peers. P is also successfully toilet trained.
