Our Services

Children with additional needs are faced with a variety of challenges and each child learns at their own speed.

Here at Horizon Hub we individualise all our strategies so that children can learn at their best effective pace.

We focus on the following areas of need:

A child plays on a trampoline in a classroom, there are multiple fitness equipment items in the room for them to use.

Behaviour

We use positive reinforcement which is specifically personalised to each child and helps with the regulation of heightened behaviours. We incorporate a variety of visuals to promote optimal learning which enables our children to reach their full potential.

Language and Communication

We incorporate individualised visual communication systems where needed and teach through play and imitation where appropriate. We teach foundation language skills to help with the processing of sounds and words. We develop receptive understanding and expanded language, social skills and spontaneous language. We collaborate with Speech and Language Therapists to ensure that their guidance meets the child’s Horizon Hub Plan.

A child sits at a desk and is colouring and drawing on paper, they're using larger colouring pens to draw monsters.

Emotional Regulation

Through focussed teaching about the differences in emotions and areas of regulation, from anxiety to anger, we personalise the approach to a child’s individual challenges. We work through how their emotional needs result in certain reactions and teach them how to recognise emotions within themselves. We then go on to develop and teach appropriate individualised replacement skills so that the child can begin to independently self-regulate their emotions.

A child lays under a blanket in a sensory room. The lights are dim and they are touching an optical lamp and cuddling a soft toy.

Sensory

We work alongside Occupational Therapists to develop and integrate any specific individualised programmes. We also develop strategies to practically support sensory development, coordination, spacial awareness, fine/gross motor skills and memory, firstly by establishing the need, then breaking down the skill required, followed by setting up an individually paced learning strategy. We target many sensory areas such as sound, clothing, food and environmental factors.
